4 star WR commits to Cal

The news out of the weekend isn’t all bad. As a consolation, 4-star wideout Marvin Jones committed to Cal over the weekend after taking in the Cal-OSU game. Scout.com reports that Jones met with Tedford after the game and gave his verbal commitment. Scout and Rivals.com list Jones as a 4-star recruit, with Rivals listing Jones as one of their top 100 prospects in the nation. On an amusing note, Jones chose Cal over Oregon partially because of the amount of rain in Oregon.

This is our first huge commitment of the year and should be great for the team. Jones is 6’2″ and 180 lbs, while running a 4.5 40. He gives us another big and fast receiver who could potentially play as a true freshman next year. Matching him up with Nyan Boateng should keep the Cal receiving corp from a dropoff after this year’s superstars graduate or head to the NFL.

  1. This makes me feel a lot better. I was beginning to worry about the loss of all our stud WR’s, but now I am thinking our O next year may very well be better than this years. Just picture it, Montgomery and Best, IF USED PROPERLY, will be the next Bush-White tandem. The possibilities are endless. Couple that with the Boateng kid who is big, strong and fast! Damn, we can really rock! Plus our D will have matured more and maybe we won’t get walked on if we have a new D coordinator!

P.S. Damn folks! The way D-Jax’s year is going, does anyone think he might stay for his senior season? Unless he really turns it on he would be stupid to leave after this year. He is undersized and he has underperformed this year. In his defense he has been banged up, but damn, he might be wise to continue to get stronger and stay next year. At this point in the season I would be shocked if he left.

  2. First, is Boateng still in the mix after his off-season, off-field problems?

Second, how awkward is that? Sorry, coach, for that tough loss tonight, but guess what, I wanna join your team! Here’s a kid personally announcing the biggest decision of his young life, and you know Tedford was absolutely dieing inside. But you also know that Tedford welcomed the news in the most sincere, appreciative, celebratory way possible. Man the life of a coach is hard.

  3. Don’t forget about Jeremy Ross and Cunningham. Two fantastic receivers.
