ESPN’s Corso picks Cal for national championship
Posted by Eric | August 26, 2006 at 7:09 pm | In Ranks/Predictions | 4 CommentsESPN College Gameday‘s Lee Corso picked Cal to be the national champion during their TV broadcast over the weekend, predicting a win by Cal over West Virginia in the BCS championship game. While the other analysts were not in agreement with his statement, it was a great nod of respect from a well-known name in college football. Corso also said that even if Cal were to lose to Tennessee, the team should “blow through the next eleven games”. Good stuff.

I’d be happy with a Rose Bowl appearance. A national title would be amazing, though. Then I could really stick it to my USC friends.

I’m actually a little surprised we haven’t been a trendier pick. Outside of the quarterback position, which we can only improve at, there are no questions marks on either side of the ball. Though SC is stocked again, they’ll naturally face growing pains without the same leadership in key positions. And, we have a tough but manageable schedule.
In any case, even if we did go undefeated, we’d probably have to hope that every other squad in the nation has at least two losses. Regardless of how dominate we are, people are always going to give the Notre Dames, SCs, Ohio States the benefit of the doubt over us.
Rose Bowl, definitely!
