Tim Mixon headed to NFL

According to sources, Cal’s AD compliance office has confirmed that senior cornerback Tim Mixon will no longer be seeking a sixth year of eligibility and will make a try for the NFL. Mixon was injured in fall camp and missed the 2006 season. He was previously looking to extend his eligibility for another year, but most speculated that his chances to get another year were very slim–making this news disappointing but not surprising.
Thanks Timmy for the leadership as well as the hard work at cornerback and punt returns. We wish him the best of luck in the NFL.

Why would his chances of eligibility for another year be slim? Did he not play in a single game?

I wish him the best in his NFL endeavors. Shame on his brother for going to Wazzu St. instead of CAL! Still, shouldn’t he have waited to see how the NCAA would rule?

Many cases just like Tim’s are heard every year by the NCAA and they turn them all down. There are very rarely exceptions to this trend. The chances of Tim Mixon getting another year was very very low and he knew this as well. It’s not like Tim’s case was especially unusual or extraordinary such that it would warrant consideration by the extremely stringent NCAA.

Yeah, didn’t Chase Lyman petition for a 6th yr back in 04 and the NCAA shot him down? I am sure the NCAA has a thing against CAL so they would never have granted Tim a sixth yr of eligibility.
